Top 3 Natural Diaper Creams

Moms, I’m sure you’ve all experienced those annoying diaper rashes, especially in the summer. Babies have very sensitive skin and their cute little bums can get irritated very easily and diaper rash can come on very quickly and can be quite uncomfortable. Unfortunately many of the fast-acting diaper creams in the market these days contains chemicals and toxic ingredients that can be harmful when used long-term. This is why I have decided to minimize the use of diaper rash cream.

I use coconut oil if I see a little bit of redness but when it is a little bit more serious, I would use a natural diaper cream. I’m not a die-hart organics mom, but I do like to go organic and natural with some things especially when it comes to kids. It’s not easy to choose the best natural diaper cream as there are many in the market and you can be easily overwhelmed. So I am sharing my finding and experience with the ones I have tried so far. Here are the Top 3 I recommend.

1. Weleda Baby Diaper Cream

I really like the Weleda Baby Diaper Cream because Weleda is a very trusted brand for natural products. The diaper cream uses zinc oxide which protects and promotes healing while calendula soothes the skin. It comes in a tube so it’s easy to use. A little bit goes a long way so the tube lasts for quite a while.

Ingredients: Beeswax, Benzyl Benzoate*, Benzyl Salicylate*, Calendula, Chamomile, Geraniol*, Glyceryl Linoleate, Hectorite, Lanolin, Limonene*, Linalool*, Sweet Almond, Sesame, Water, Zinc Oxide. * from natural essential oils

2. Earth Mama Organic Diaper Balm

Earth Mama Baby Organic Diaper Balm is one of the top recommended organic diaper creams, or I should say diaper balm. I love this balm because it’s 100% organic, non-toxic, vegan and gluten-free. It’s clinically tested and hospital recommended. It contains no artificial dyes or fragrances, petroleum products, mineral oil, Vitamin E, phthalates, or parabens. It is made of organic shea butter and organic essential oils. It works wonders to sooth those little bums. The only downside is that it is a bit on the pricy side as the jar is pretty small.

Ingredients: Organic Olive (Olea Europaea) Fruit Oil, Organic Shea (Butyrospermum Parkii) Butter, Organic Beeswax (Cera Flava), Organic Jojoba (Simmondsia Chinensis) Seed Oil, Organic Lavender (Lavandula Angustifolia) Flower Oil, Organic Tea Tree (Melaleuca Alternifolia) Leaf Oil, Organic Calendula (Calendula Officinalis) Flower Extract, Organic St. John’s Wort (Hypericum Perforatum) Extract, Organic Chickweed (Stellaria Media) Extract, Organic Plantain (Plantago Major) Extract

3. Badger Baby Balm

Badger is another great natural products brand especially for kids.  I had recommended their sunscreen for babies before and I’m going to recommend the Badger Baby Balm too.  I like this balm because it has multi-uses. It’s effective in treating diaper rash and also cradle cap and can also be used as a baby massage balm. It contains zero chemicals and is also organic. It’s main ingredients include calendula and chamomile which are great for calming babies.

Ingredients: *Olea Europaea (Extra Virgin Olive) Oil, *Ricinus Communis (Castor) Oil, *Cera Alba (Beeswax), Essential Oil of *Anthemis Nobilis (Roman Chamomile), and CO2 Extract of *Calendula Officinalis (Calendula).
* = Certified Organic

When looking for a natural diaper cream, you should avoid these harmful ingredients:

o Parabens
o Artificial Fragrance
o Sodium borate (also known as borax)
o Propylene glycol
o Petroleum products
o PEGs
o Formaldehyde releasers
o Problematic preservatives

And please don’t put diaper cream on every time you change your baby, only put it on when there is a rash. Hope you find this post helpful. Let me know what’s your favourite diaper cream or balm.
